The amount you prune back depends on the type of hedge.<\/p>\n<p>Start shaping already from the first year, and later years a hedge should be a bit tapered ensuring the lower part will get the sunlight it needs for healthy growth.<\/p>\n<p>So regular maintenance will ensure your hedge keeps healthy and nice. If you\u2019re experienced you can cut a hedge by eye, but it can be a good idea to set your lines with lengths of string taut between canes.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Hedge trimming<\/strong> seasons and the frequency of cutting depends on the species, but evergreens should be trimmed around two to three times a year during the growing season (around May to September);<\/p>\n<p>Do not cut conifers after the end of August.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-1419\" title=\"Lowering &#038;
